Some of the world’s most exciting and iconic attractions can be found in New York City. In addition to Times Square, Central Park and other world-renowned attractions, the city boasts other places of interest that are located throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and NYC’s other boroughs. If you want to visit some other local attractions along with the city’s most well-known landmarks, you can head to any of these four places to make your time in New York City even more worthwhile.
American Museum of Natural History
One of Manhattan’s most educational attractions, this museum has some of the best dinosaur bones and other relics of natural history that you’ll see. The bones of an extinct mammoth along with replicas of brown bears and a blue whale can also be seen. The Rose Center for Earth and Space is another part of the museum where you can learn more interesting facts about the planets, stars and other aspects of the solar system.
Governors Island
This tiny island in New York Harbor is located off Manhattan’s southern tip and not far from the shores of Brooklyn. The island is usually only accessible by ferry from the beginning of May through the end of October. During your time on the island, you can explore the parklands on foot and check out some of the historic homes. In September, the island hosts the Governors Island Art Fair, and musical concerts are sometimes held on the island when it’s accessible to the public.
Skyline Drive in NYC
Nestled among Brooklyn’s international and vegan food restaurants is this classic drive-in movie theater, which shows movies seven days a week. You can watch a movie on the jumbo screen while enjoying views of the Manhattan skyline in the background. If you don’t have a car, you can reserve a chair and watch a movie while sitting in the outdoor seating area.

New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden
If you take the free ferry ride to Staten Island, you can visit this attraction and experience some of the splendors of the Far East within the city limits. Inspired by gardens that were prevalent during China’s Ming Dynasty, this lovely garden is one of only two authentic classical Chinese gardens to be built in the United States. During your tour, you’ll pass over pedestrian bridges that hover above tranquil waterways and see buildings with traditional Chinese architectural styles while you behold the beautiful plants and flowers that are on display.
