So you’ve been watching the Olympics in South Korea this month—as you do, you see athletes from virtually every corner of our wonderful planet. It gets you thinking. A lot. You’ve caught a massive case of ‘wanderlust’.
You want to travel. You’ve ALWAYS wanted to travel and see things you’ve never seen before…countries and cultures you only see on TV. Now you must scratch that itch to travel. It’s time to go. The question is—where? If you’ve ever thought about heading to Britain, now is the perfect time—there’s so much you can do while Globus Tours makes it easy and affordable to go. But where you go and what you do depends on what drives you.
It starts in London
No matter where in Britain you go, at some point you’ll find yourself in London. The beating heart of England and all of the UK, London has something for everyone to do.
Are you a soccer (football) fan? Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal are London-based football clubs that are still alive in Champions League and Europa League championship competitions. In addition, London is home to five Premiere League Clubs and a dozen in the top three flights of English Football. Chances are you can find a match or two in crowds that range from 5,000–90,000 spectators. The season concludes in mid-May.
Football not your thing? Boasting three concert halls more than three dozen theaters (primarily on the West End), London allows you ample opportunity to take in a show that suits your fancy. You can see symphonies, operas, ballets and choral productions at several famous venues (St. Paul’s Cathedral, Royal Albert Hall, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral).
London’s (and Britain’s) long and rich history comes alive in the many London museums. Too, many of these museums are free to the public. The British Museum, Royal Academy of Arts and the National Gallery are just three examples of the exceptional selection of Museums in the Londaon area.
More than just London!!
While you could spend a lifetime in London and never see the same thing twice, there are other places in Britain for the tourist/traveler. Care to tour some of the finest single malt distilleries on the planet? Head north to Scotland. Home to more than 100 distilleries, wrapping up a long day of touring the beautiful Scottish Highlands, taking in the 900 years of history in Edinburgh or playing the 19th hole after a day on one of the majestic links-style golf courses, nothing puts an exclamation point on a fantastic day than a dram of the National Drink.
Don’t overlook Wales
Small and often overlooked, Wales provides more than enough to satisfy anyone’s wanderlust. Catering to those who love to explore the outdoors, Wales has plenty to offer. Picturesque Brecon Beacons National Park provides hikers with breathtaking views and abundance of wild ponies. Other locations for the outdoorsman in all of us—Devil’s Bridge, Pembrokeshire and the Bodnant Garden keep us all grounded in Nature’s breathtaking beauty.
Heading to Britain will help curb the wanderlust that has welled up inside you as you watch the Olympics. And you never know, you might just stumble onto the set of “Game of Thrones” which is filming now.
