As the misty mornings and chilly nights begin to set in, you may feel as though a family break is required to recharge your batteries. There are many family-friendly and accessible attractions in the UK that are available to visit throughout the winter season and here are some of our favourites.
North Yorkshire Moors
This national park in North Yorkshire is home to some beautiful views in the colder seasons. It’s perfect for scenic winter walks, with great views of the sky and plenty of nature to spot with the kids. Nearby attractions include Eden Camp, Scarborough Castle and Whitby Abbey, plus many more.
We recommend spending an entire weekend here to fully enjoy everything that North Yorkshire has to offer, so retreat with your family in a cosy cottage or lodge in the area. Many of them are fully accessible to cater for the entire family and if there is some travel involved in your trip, you can look into options for spacious, wheelchair accessible vehicles for a more comfortable journey.
National History Museum
If you would prefer to avoid the cold weather, the National History Museum in London is a perfect choice for a family day trip. It is free admission and exhibits a huge range of natural specimens and galleries to keep children, and adults, entertained all day.
The museum has five cafés and food outlets around the building for re-fuelling breaks and three shops to buy all of your gifts and souvenirs. All areas are accessibly by lifts, there is on-site parking spaces available for Blue Badge holders and wheelchairs are available to hire for free from two allocated points in the building.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
This is must-see if you are looking to get into the festive spirit with your family. It is free entry and open until 10pm so you can walk around the attractions and activities at your own pace and soak up the Christmassy atmosphere.
There are pre-bookable attractions, such as The Nutcracker on Ice performance, an ice rink and a Christmas Circus, all of which offer wheelchair access. The on-site disabled access is excellent, with a Personal Assistant (PA) Scheme to provide disabled visitors who require assistance with an extra ticket for a partner, friend or PA.
Don’t let the winter season put you off from planning your next trip – there are plenty of places in the UK to enjoy a stress-free and inclusive experience for the entire family. Hopefully this article will give you some inspiration to get planning for your winter break!
