A family holiday can be one of the most magical and memorable times of the year. Whether you take a long weekend or jet off for a fortnight, your family vacation is the perfect time for you to reconnect and get away from daily life.
However, travelling can be boring or stressful for children, especially little ones. To keep your kids happy when on holiday, here is how you can prepare in advance.
Road Trip Checklist
If you are planning on a staycation or a road trip, make sure your kids are ready for a long car journey. The easiest way to do this is with a family activity sheet, with a list of games from eye spy, to spotting car colours and the number plate game.
In addition, prep food in advance and bring along some of your family favourites. Pack individual packed lunches, try some new healthy recipes, or pack in a selection of mini treats to use as prizes.
Play on the Plane
To keep your children happy and relaxed on a flight, carry some air friendly activities. What works in a car may not necessarily be suitable aeroplane, to make sure to think ahead.
With limited tray space, forget large colouring books and easy to drop pencils, instead opt for a small etch a sketch, load up your tablet with fun games and apps, pack travel sized games or even a portable DVD player.
Top tip: For younger ones, make sure to bring their favourite teddy or toy to help them sleep.
Plan for Fun
When you arrive at your destination, you may be feeling a little jetlagged and in need of sleep. A couple of days lounging around the pool or playing at the beach should do the trick, but make sure to plan some fun activities, too. While your holiday is a fantastic way to relax and unwind, it is also a great opportunity to make family memories that will last a lifetime, and fun activities make for amazing photographs.
Depending on the age of your children, you could go to a water park, visit a castle or museum, book some fun children’s classes, try water sports, or go on an excursion.
When you travel as a family, make sure you plan ahead to ensure that you have fun. And always remember to keep hydrated and apply sun cream at regular intervals.
